About

Marie  ‘Maps’  Campbell

I’m a folk singer and songwriter from Glasgow. I used to be in punk bands (cheetaras) and twee bands (the hermit crabs, tibi lubin) and an indie band (older and far away) but I’ve undergone a wholescale folk conversion in the last couple of years.

There’s nothing like an old, old tune that can still chill the gut or let the spirit fly.  I’m working hard on my interpretations of traditional songs at the moment, including The Deserter, The False Bride and Matty Groves.

Hopefully I’ll be out and about playing some shows in the near future and I have plans to organise some proper recording too.

In the meantime, I’ll also be blogging regularly on anything that interests me perhaps including, but not limited to, the singing and writing of songs,  whisky, astronomy, tortoiseshells, the child ballads, the sartorial arts, sonneteering, travel, wasps, weather, maps, charts and paths, boats, ancient civilisations,  starlings, meaning, ways and means and the universe as a whole or in parts.

Thank you for visiting and feel free to get in touch, to sign up for the occasional mailing list, to buy me drinks, to follow me on Twitter or to link up with me on the Book of the Face.
